Rivian has rolled out its latest software update (2024.35), introducing a host of new features designed to enhance safety, comfort, and user experience for owners of its R1T pickup and R1S SUV electric vehicle (EV) models.
According to Rivian, one of the standout features of the 2024.35 update is the introduction of Gear Guard Live Cam. This enhancement to Rivian’s existing Gear Guard security system allows owners to access a live feed of their vehicle’s surroundings directly through the Rivian mobile app. This feature, available to Connect+ subscribers, proves particularly useful in situations such as:
The live feed capability builds upon Rivian’s existing high-resolution camera system embedded around the vehicle and the physical security cables for gear protection.
Rivian has further refined its lighting technology for second-generation (2025) R1S and R1T models with the introduction of Dynamic Headlamp Leveling. This feature ensures a stable diffusion of light from the vehicle’s headlights, regardless of the car’s position. The result is improved visibility on bumpy terrain or during sudden acceleration or deceleration.
This update builds upon the Adaptive High Beams launched last month, which automatically adjust the vehicle’s high beams based on surrounding conditions. These advancements position Rivian as an early adopter of adaptive driving beam technology in the U.S. market.
Responding to customer feedback, Rivian has expanded its climate control system from dual-zone to tri-zone. This update allows for individual temperature settings for the driver’s seat, front passenger seat, and rear passenger seats (including third row where applicable).
Additionally, rear-seat passengers can now view and adjust their climate settings using the second-row display, enhancing comfort for all occupants.
To help drivers better understand and visualize changes to their vehicle settings, Rivian has introduced new animations for adjustments to tide height, brake regeneration, stability, and ride feel.
These visual aids appear when settings are changed, providing clear information about how each adjustment affects the vehicle’s performance and handling.
In a playful nod to pop culture, Rivian has teased an upcoming “Knight Rider” inspired front lighting theme, set to debut in October. The company released a video featuring David Hasselhoff, star of the original Knight Rider series, hinting at a lighting feature that will transform Rivian vehicles into electric versions of the iconic K.I.T.T. car. This latest update underscores the advantages of software-defined vehicles, allowing for significant feature enhancements without hardware changes. It also highlights Rivian’s responsiveness to customer requests and its commitment to improving both the functionality and enjoyment of its EVs.
As Rivian continues to evolve its software capabilities, owners can look forward to an ever-improving experience with their vehicles. The combination of practical safety features, comfort enhancements, and whimsical additions like the upcoming Knight Rider mode showcases Rivian’s holistic approach to vehicle development and customer satisfaction.
