Tesla is making a strategic move to clear its remaining Foundation Series Cybertruck electric vehicle (EV) inventory by offering an attractive new incentive: free lifetime Supercharging for new buyers.

New Incentive for Premium Inventory Clearance

The promotion, which began December 27, 2024, arrives alongside price reductions on these limited-edition EV models, signaling potential challenges in moving the premium-tier inventory. The Foundation Series Cybertruck, distinguished by its exclusive laser-etched badges and premium accessories, is now available at reduced prices. The All-Wheel-Drive variant has been discounted by $5,000 to $94,990, while the high-performance Cyberbeast trim is now priced at $114,990, down from its original $119,990 price tag.

The free lifetime Supercharging offer comes with specific conditions. The benefit is tied to the original purchaser’s Tesla account and cannot be transferred to subsequent owners, even if the vehicle is sold. While charging is free, owners remain responsible for additional fees such as idle and congestion charges at busy Supercharger stations. Tesla maintains the right to revoke the benefit in cases of excessive charging or unpaid fees.

Market Dynamics and Challenges

Notably, this follows Tesla’s transition to producing regular Cybertruck variants, which launched earlier this year at around $20,000 less than their Foundation Series counterparts. The timing of this promotion suggests Tesla is facing inventory management challenges with its premium trucks. This assessment is further supported by recent production adjustments at Giga Texas, where Cybertruck line workers were told not to report for work during a three-day period in early December.

The market response has been mixed. While potential buyers welcome the added value of lifetime free Supercharging, some existing Foundation Series owners have expressed frustration at not receiving similar benefits with their earlier purchases. The situation varies geographically – while U.S. buyers can take advantage of this inventory clearance promotion, Canadian customers are still placing new orders for Foundation Series vehicles at original prices.

Comparison with Other Tesla Models

Interestingly, Tesla has extended similar charging incentives to other premium vehicles in its lineup, notably the Model S. However, in that case, the company offset the benefit by implementing price increases of $5,000 and CAD7,000 in the U.S. and Canada respectively.

The promotion explicitly excludes business orders, vehicles intended for commercial use such as taxi or delivery services, and used vehicles. Tesla has not specified an end date for the offer, noting that the promotion is subject to change or termination at any time.

With this new promotion, it reflects Tesla’s strategic push to optimize its premium inventory while navigating an increasingly competitive EV market. As Tesla introduces new Cybertruck variants and adjusts production, this move may signal broader implications for its electric truck strategy as it works to clear its Foundation Series Cybertruck inventory.
