Zeekr has partnered with Mapbox to revolutionize in-car navigation and user experience for its electric vehicles (EVs). This partnership represents a prominent step forward in the evolution of Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) that aims to deliver an unprecedented level of adaptability and personalization for drivers worldwide.

Cloud-Based Navigation

In detail, this partnership lies in a sophisticated cloud-based navigation system that continuously evolves through software updates, eliminating the need for hardware modifications. This “always fresh” approach aligns with Zeekr’s vision of creating vehicles that improve over time, responding to user needs and technological advancements.

Giovanni Lanfranchi, CEO of Zeekr Technology Europe, emphasizes the strategic importance of this collaboration stating, “Navigation and AI are core elements of the technology stack enabling the Intelligent Cockpit.” In addition, the partnership aims to create vehicles that not only meet current driver needs but also adapt and evolve through customer feedback and technological innovation.

Features for EV Drivers

The new system introduces several advanced features designed to enhance the EV driving experience. The Electric Vehicle Routing and Cruise Mode simplifies journey planning by intelligently managing waypoints, whether navigating city streets or highway travel. A particularly noteworthy innovation is the Charging Filters feature, which helps drivers locate optimal charging stations based on their preferences and ensures a minimum State of Charge upon arrival at their destination.

The user interface has been completely reimagined, offering drivers flexible viewing options including 2D, 3D, and satellite perspectives. Real-time traffic updates and dynamic re-routing capabilities help drivers avoid delays, while the system’s Dynamic Rest Area Recommendations feature suggests optimal stopping points during longer trips.

User-Driven Improvements

Moreover, the partnership presents a novel approach to product improvement through direct user engagement. A built-in User Feedback system enables drivers to contribute to the navigation system’s development by sharing screen recordings and audio feedback directly with the development team, creating a continuous loop of improvement and refinement.

Peter Sirota, CEO of Mapbox, shares this vision of innovation stating, “Together, we’re setting a new standard for innovation, using our cloud-first navigation and location platform to create a driving experience that’s more responsive, customizable, and future-ready.”

By creating EVs that learn and adapt through sophisticated navigation and location services, the partnership aims to bring an increasingly personalized and efficient driving experience that improves over time. The partnership will make its public debut at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.
