With a 38% Boost In Electrified Vehicle Sales, Ford’s Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, And E-Transit Drive Impressive Growth
Ford has shown excellent growth in electric vehicle (EV) sales throughout 2024, establishing new records across its electrified lineup while outpacing the broader automotive industry’s growth rate.
In detail, Ford’s total United States (U.S.) sales reached 2.07 million vehicles in 2024, representing a 4.2% increase from the previous year – double the estimated industry average of 2%. This growth was especially pronounced in the electrified vehicle segment, where Ford sold 285,291 units across its hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEVs), and fully electric offerings, marking a notable 38% increase from 2023.
In the purely EV category, Ford set several important milestones. The Mustang Mach-E emerged as the second-best-selling electric SUV in the U.S. behind only Tesla’s Model Y, with 51,745 units sold, meaning a 27% increase from the previous year. Q4 proved especially strong for the Mach-E, with 16,119 units sold – its best quarterly performance to date.
The F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck also showed strong market acceptance, with annual sales reaching 33,510 units, a 38% increase from 2023, despite a 10% decline in Q4 sales. The E-Transit van showed particularly impressive growth, with sales surging 64% to reach 12,610 units in 2024. Collectively, Ford’s electric vehicle sales totaled 97,865 units for the year, marking a 34.8% increase from 2023.
While Ford’s achievements in the EV vehicle market are meaningful, it is worth noting that General Motors (GM) has emerged as America’s second-largest EV seller behind Tesla, with over 114,000 EVs sold in the U.S. in 2024.
To maintain this momentum, Ford has extended its innovative “Power Promise” promotion through March 31, 2025. This program, which provides new EV buyers with a free Level 2 home charger and covers standard installation costs, aims to address one of the primary concerns of potential EV buyers – home charging infrastructure. The program also includes an 8-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty, round-the-clock support, and roadside assistance.
As a result, these outcomes reflect not only Ford’s successful execution of its electrification strategy but also the broader transformation of the American automotive market, as consumers increasingly embrace EVs across various segments, from daily drivers to commercial vehicles.
