At the Honda 0 Tech Meeting 2024, the company revealed its next-generation technologies for the upcoming Honda 0 Series, a new lineup of electric vehicles (EVs) set to launch globally in 2026. 

A New Approach to EV Development

Honda’s new approach to EV development, encapsulated in the concept “Thin, Light, and Wise,” aims to provide unique values such as artistic design, enhanced safety, and optimized driving experiences. This philosophy underpins the development of the Honda 0 Series, which will debut with the production model of the Saloon as its flagship.

According to Honda, key technological advancements include:

  • New Dedicated EV Platform: Utilizing ultra-high strength steel plates and a thin battery pack, the platform achieves low vehicle height and high electricity efficiency.
  • Compact e-Axle: A newly developed compact e-Axle contributes to the vehicle’s efficiency and lighter weight.
  • Active Aerodynamic System: An innovative system that automatically activates the front aero deflector to reduce air resistance and enhance stability.
  • Advanced Battery Technology: Honda aims to limit battery capacity degradation to less than 10% over ten years, significantly improving long-term performance.
  • Intelligent Technologies: The 0 Series will incorporate software-defined vehicle (SDV) capabilities, with Honda developing its own vehicle operating system.

Automated Driving and User Experience

Honda is pushing the boundaries of automated driving with the 0 Series. The vehicles will feature Level 3 automated driving technologies, utilizing LiDAR-based sensing and high-definition camera technologies. The company aims to be the first to expand “eyes-off” functions to all driving situations, promising safer and more convenient mobility.

  • A 6,000-ton class megacasting machine for efficient production of battery cases.
  • The world’s first CDC joining technology for lightweight and high-strength materials.

Global Expansion Plans

Honda has ambitious plans for the 0 Series, aiming to introduce a total of seven models globally by 2030. These will include small, medium, and large-size models, catering to a wide range of consumer needs.

Toshihiro Mibe, CEO of Honda, expressed enthusiasm about the new technology stating, “With the Honda 0 Series, we are not just creating new electric vehicles; we are redefining the very concept of mobility. Our ‘Thin, Light, and Wise’ approach represents a paradigm shift in EV design and functionality.”

The first production model of the Honda 0 Series is scheduled to be unveiled at CES 2025, with the global launch following in 2026.
