Xiaomi’s SU7 Exceeds Delivery Targets In Nine Months, While Upcoming Models Like The SU7 Ultra And YU7 Boost Its Global EV Presence
Xiaomi has achieved an outstanding milestone with its first electric vehicle (EV) venture. Its SU7 electric sedan has exceeded 130,000 deliveries in just nine months since its launch, exceeding the company’s adjusted full-year target.
The SU7 made its initial debut on December 28, 2023, when Xiaomi’s founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun unveiled the vehicle with a vision: to position Xiaomi among the top five global car manufacturers within two decades. This declaration was followed by the official launch on March 28, 2024, with the company introducing three versions of the SU7 – Standard, Pro, and Max – at competitive price points ranging from RMB 215,900 yuan (around $29,580) to RMB 299,900 (around $41,086).
Within 27 minutes of its launch, the SU7 accumulated 50,000 orders, signaling strong consumer confidence in Xiaomi’s automotive capabilities. This initial enthusiasm translated into consistent sales growth, with the company delivering 10,000 vehicles in its first full month of operations. The momentum continued to build, with Xiaomi gaining 90,000 deliveries over the next 198 days, followed by an additional 30,000 units in just 45 days, bringing the total to 130,000 vehicles.
In terms of the SU7’s specifications, the model lineup offers notable performance options, from an entry-level rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration producing 295 horsepower to a high-performance dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system generating 663 horsepower. Interstingly, the SU7 delivers excellent range capabilities of 700 km (434 miles) to 830 km (521 miles) on a single charge, depending on the battery configuration.
Moreover, Xiaomi has already announced plans for two significant additions to its lineup in 2025. The first is the SU7 Ultra, a high-performance variant priced at RMB 814,900 (around $111,640) – nearly four times the base SU7’s starting price – scheduled for launch in March 2025. Following this, Xiaomi plans to introduce its first SUV, the YU7, expected to debut in June or July of the same year.
To support this expanding product line, Xiaomi is preparing to launch its second-phase car plant, which will significantly increase production capacity. This expansion comes at a crucial time, as the company has already demonstrated its ability to maintain monthly production rates of over 20,000 units, with December 2024 alone seeing 16,328 deliveries according to China EV DataTracker.
Despite some initial production challenges, Xiaomi’s successful entry into the automotive sector represents a significant shift in the global EV marketplace. The company’s ability to leverage its technology expertise and brand recognition, combined with competitive pricing and impressive technical specifications, has created a compelling proposition for consumers.
Xiaomi’s rapid progress from announcement to successful mass production shows how the barriers to entry in the automotive industry are evolving, particularly in the EV market where software and user experience play crucial roles. As Xiaomi continues to expand its automotive operations and bring new models, it appears set to achieve its goal of becoming a major player in the global automotive industry.
